Naveen Kumar Biography

Naveen Kumar is an Indian flautist best known for his association with film music composers of Bollywood and regional language films. He is the musician behind the very famous flute of Harris Jayaraj composition of Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein/Minnale – Zara Zara/Vaseegara, and also the masterpiece title track of Kal Ho Na Ho composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. Both these songs were huge chartbusters and still popular among music lovers. His instrumental orchestral piece, "Bombay Theme" for the movie Bombay composed by A. R. Rahman was well received then. He has also directed music for Gospel recordings. He created his own flute, and calls it "Naveen Flute”, which features flute tone and the vibration of strings.

 

P.M.K. Naveen Kumar is a flautist associated with Bollywood cinema. He has worked with some of the leading composers of era like A. R. Rahman, Harris Jayaraj and Shankar Ehsaan Loy. His works for Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein/Minnale, Bombay and Kal Ho Na Ho are widely regarded as his masterpieces. He has also worked for movies like Jab We Met, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, Taal, Dhoom, Roja etc. He has also performed aside A. R. Rahman, Sivamani, Mandolin Srinivas, and John McLaughlin on stage. He has collaborated with many artists across the world.

 

A south India, initially he was associated with Tamil music. He worked with Rahman for one of his early works – Roja, and also worked with him in Bombay. For bigger opportunities, he moved to Bombay later. "Kaadhal Sadugudu" (E Udi Udi of Saathiya) in A.R. Rahman’s Alaipaayuthey, and "Salam Gulamu" in Deva's Hello are other hit tracks. He has also released a few albums such as Silence Is Bliss, Melodies of Love, Fluid etc.
