Monty Sharma Biography 
Monty Sharma is a music director and background scorer of Bollywood. He is most popular as a composer for the songs of Sanjay Leela Bansali’s Sawariya starring Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor in leading roles. As a background scorer his significant work is another critically well acclaimed movie of Sanjay Leela Bansali – Black. Monty Sharma accumulated numerous awards at different award functions for his best work in Black. He has also worked as a music composer of the movie.
Monty Sharma was born on 17 April 1970 in Mumbai. He started learning music at the age of 5. His grandfather Pandit Ram Prasad Sharma was a great vocalist and Monty got opportunity to learn music from him. Not only that, Monty is nephew of Pyarelal Ramprasad Sharma of the talented Laxmikant-Pyarelal fame. Monty started his career as a keyboard player for his uncle Pyarelal Ramprasad Sharma with the movie Mr.India at the age of 16. Apart from Laxmikanth Pyarelal, he has also worked with Rajesh Roshan, R.D.Burman, Sanjeev Darshan, Jatin Lalit and Nadeem Shravan.
As a background scorer he has worked for many Sanjay Leela Bansali movies. Black (2005) needs special mention. The role played by this musician in giving the movie ‘Black’ the intensity that really need is really magnificent. Its accumulated awards itself is the proof that his work is really worth. Black won best background music score at Filmfare, IIFA, Star screen award as well as Zee Cine Award. It also received Filmfare RD Burman Award for New Music Talent. Second most significant work is Devdas, another Sanjay Leela Bansali movie. He has also done background score for movies like Lucky: No Time for Love, Saawariya, Apne, U me aur Hum, Bomamlattam (Tamil) and Ram leela.
As a music director Saawariya was his first work and the best too. The title track, Maasha Alla and Jab se teri nayana were chartbusters. Jab se teri nayana gave a Filmfare award for the playback singer Shaan. Monty Sharma, too received a Filmfare nomination though he couldn’t win it. Saawariya’s music was also nominated in Set Max Stardust Award for Music in the year 2008. He has also composed music for Bollywood movies like Run Bhola Run, Chamku, Heroes, Naughty @ 40 and Mirch.
