Moinuddin Khan Biography 
Moinuddin Khan is an Indian musician and vocalist belonging to Hindustani classical music tradition. He is a veteran Sarangi player of present times, who belongs to Jaipur gharana of Hindustani classical music. He was honoured with Padma Shri by government of India in 2014 for his overall contributions to Hindustani music and arts. He remained a top artist of All India Radio, Jaipur, worked with the radio station as a Sarangi player for many years and is quite regular with his stage shows. He also made his his classic contribution to the English film, “Holy Rock” starring Kate Winslet in the lead role. He was featured in one of its scenes as well, playing raag malhar.
Moinuddin Khan hails from Jaipur, Rajasthan. He belongs to a traditional family of musicians of Jaipur, with many generations old tradition. He inherited music and the art of Sarangi traditionally from his father, Ustad Mehboob Khan who remained a famous figure of Sarangi during his times. He also remained a renowned guru who trained numerous students including his son and also Pandit Ram Narayanji. Moinuddin Khan has delivered many solo performances, apart from his long-term association with All India Radio. He was introduced to the world of Sarangi at the age of 7.
He has been associated with with maestros like Ustad Zakir Hussain and others whom he has often accompanied on the sarangi. As a renowned guru of Sarangi present days, he instructs students in the guru shishya tradition. There were temptations to set up institutions, yet he stayed away from commercializing music, to retain its original flavour. The musician states that learning sarangi is a very tough task and demands patience and labour. That’s why we have very few sarangi players in India. In fact the instrument is very difficult to master.
