Meeta Pandit Biography 
Meeta Pandit is a Hindustani Classical vocalist, who performs in Gwalior school of music. She belongs to a family with strong musical background and centuries-old tradition in music. She belongs to the 6th generation of musicians from the family, with an unbroken tradition. She is also the first female from her family to take music as profession, breaking all stereotypes. She started singing in public in 1983, and has been singing for more than 35 years. She is the granddaughter and disciple of Padma Bhushan Krishnarao Shankar Pandit, one of the leading vocalists of the Gwalior gharana and year 1980 recipient of Tansen Award of the Government of Madhya Pradesh.
Meeta Pandit hails from a musical family of Delhi, with 6 generations of tradition in performing music. Her father Pandit Laxman Krishnarao Pandit is an exponent of the Gwalior gharana and Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee. Her mother is a homemaker. Her schooling and college studies were completed from Delhi. She graduated in Commerce. She was initiated to the world of music at the age of three, breaking traditions by none other than her grandfather Krishnarao Shankar Pandit. She also learnt music from her father.
While her elder brother was being groomed by the family to take family tradition of music, her parents asked her to take some stable and permanent job which give less stress and travels to her. Following her brother’s unexpected death in an accident, she decided to carry forward the family legacy, and established her career before she reached 30. She was doing her graduation and had just decided to take MBA when she had to change her decision. She later completed Ph. D in the Hindustani Classical music by the age of 27. Over the years she has performed in several music festivals.
