Manju Singh Biography

Manju Singh is one of the pioneers of Indian media industry. She is one among those early media professional who has witnessed the growth of television industry since its infancy days to 1000 channels today. Manju has been associated with this field behind the screen for more than 25 years. She is credited to the producer of the first sponsored program on Indian television history. The program’s name was ‘Showtheme’ aired in the year 1983. Later she produced several shows on Doordarshan - Ek Kahani, Aur Ek Kahani, Khel Khilone, Swaraj and Janam Samjha Karo. In her words, she became part of the TV revolution that happened in India.

 

She presented stories across the country through the show - Ek Kahani, first one of this kind aired during the period 1983-1989, helped in popularizing Doordarshan across the country, even rural places. The program elevated the standards of Indian television also. It was followed by Adhikar in 1987, a show on Indian justice, which too became popular. The show was based on real-life incidents about the problems of women kind and fights for their legal rights. She presented the children’s programme Khel Khilone for over 7 years on Mumbai Doordarshan.  

 

Her talent was first noticed by film director Hrishikesh Mukherjee, who offered her a role in his classic – Golmaal in 1979. She played the role of Amol Palekar’s younger sister, Ratna Sharma in the comedy blockbuster. Her creativity has given rise to many television shows like Samyaktva, Aur Ek Kahani etc. She has participated in several International Film Festivals for children and young Adults and with this aim she started Entertainment with a Purpose' WorldKids Foundation in 2007.
