M. S. Sheela Biography 
M. S. Sheela is a leading Carnatic classical vocalist from Karnataka. She is also known for light music, best in Sugama Sangeetha genre. She is one of the foremost disciples of R. K. Srikantan. She is a A-grade artist in All India Radio and Doordarshan, both in Carnatic and light music, and is quite regular with her performances. Haridasa Namana′, ′Palinchu Kamakshi′, ′Guru Raghavendra′ are some of her audio releases, and has collaborated with many leading musicians and artists for Hamsadhwani's thematic series such as 'Haridasa Namana' and 'Vaggeya Vaibhava'. She also conducts workshops along with her husband and also promotes young singers.
Sheela hails from a musical family of south India. Sheela sang her first notes under the guidance of her mother M. N. Rathna, a popular musician of yesteryears. She was taken to stage at an early age, and since then she has performed worldwide and almost all leading musical festivals of India. Strict and rigorous training under doyen of Carnatic music Dr R K Srikantan shaped her singing talents. She also took Master’s in music with a gold medal from Bangalore, and is the first woman artist from the state to score a top rank in Carnatic music. She is a trained Bharatanatyam dancer too and has performed on stage till the early 90's. After that she completely switched over to music.
She was honoured with Sangeetya Puraskara by Sangeetya Asthana and Gaurava Puraskara of Karnataka Sangeeta Nritya Academy in 2007. She is quite regular in Radio Sangeeth Sammelan, Trinity Festival, National Programmes and numerous special features. Her husband is also a musician and the couple conducts workshops on music frequently. She is the 'Asthana Vidushi' of Sri Jagadguru Shankaracharya Mahasamsthanam Dakshinamnaya Sri Sarada Peetham, Sringeri. Sheela has a large number of audio releases to her credit.
