M. M. Srilekha Biography

M. M. Srilekha is a popular music director and playback singer associated with Telugu cinema. Srilekha is credited to be the only female music director of Telugu cinema. She is born into a family of strong film and music background. She is the cousin of noted sibling music composers M. M. Keeravani and Kalyan Koduri. Noted film maker K. V. Vijayendra Prasad is her uncle while famous film director S. S. Rajamouli of Baahubali fame is also her cousin. Writer-Director Siva Sakthi Datta is also her close relative. She was brought up in Chennai along with her cousins. She is the co-composer of Bollywood musical hit - Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain in 1999.

 

Closely associated with cinema, she was inclined towards movies and music since young. She started her singing career in movies at a young age of 12. As a music composer she has been credited as Manimekalai in her early movies. Tamil film - Naalaiya Theerpu, marked her film debut as a music composer in 1992. She entered Telugu film scene as a music composer with the films - Taj Mahal and Naannagaru in 1995. Simultaneously she continued with her singing career too. In the late 1990s she associated with Bollywood music composer Anu Malik for a few of musicals like Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain, Mere Sapnon Ki Rani and Aaghaz.

 

As a leading composer of Telugu film industry, some of her recent works include - Operation Duryodhana 2, Pavitra, Nenem…Chinna Pillana? and the Tamil film - Kadhal Solla Aasai in 2013. She is a recipient of many awards including Ugadi Puraskar awards for women. Till now she has composed for more than 70 feature films in 5 Indian languages, predominantly in Telugu.
