Lubna Salim Biography

Lubna Salim is a successful television actress best known for the portrayal of Leela Thakkar on the popular television series on Star Plus - Baa Bahoo Aur Baby. She is popularly known by the title ‘Leela Bhabhi’ after the success of this television series. Bharat Ek Khoj, Daaman, Ek Packet Umeed, Chhatrapati Shivaji and Mera Naam Karegi Roshan are other noted television works. She is a theatre artist too, who played noted roles in plays like Azar ka kwab, Atmakatha, Shyam Rang, Lakeerein and Mera Kuch Saman. She has also done a cameo role in 2012 popular Hindi movie – Oh My God, which starred Paresh rawal and Akshay kumar in pivot roles.

 

She is the daughter of veteran playwright, dialogue writer and screenwriter Javed Siddiqui, known for the movies Baazigar, DDLJ and Raja Hindustani. Her mother Farida is associated with IPTA as a costume designer. She currently resides in Oshiwara. She is married to theatre director Salim Arif. She is a partner in his theatre company too. She completed graduation from Mithibai College Mumbai and later pursued a career in theater. Doordarshan series – Bharat ek khoj (1988) was one of her earliest appearances, quite at a younger age. As a theatre artist, she got opportunity to work with many veterans like Shabana Azmi, Rohini Hattangadi, AK Hangal, Arundhati Nag and Farooque Shaikh.

 

Her first appearance for a movie was ‘Parbat Ke Us Paar ‘ which didn’t perform well at box office. Baa Bahoo Aur Baby – proved to be her big break to small screen where she portrayed the memorable role of Leela Bhabhi. She reviewed positive response from family audience for this pivot role. She was shortlisted for the role from a list of about 400 candidates.
