Lavanya Sundararaman Biography 
Lavanya Sundararaman is an Indian Carnatic musician from Tamil Nadu. She is one among the popular vocalists of present-day generation. She is the great-granddaughter of the legendary artist, D. K. Pattammal and also mridangam maestro Palghat Mani Iyer. Her grandmother Lalitha Sivakumar is a daughter of Palghat Mani Iyer. Thus she is also a niece of renowned singer Nithyasree Mahadevan and Carnatic vocalist Palghat Ramprasad. In year 2000, she has performed aside D. K. Pattammal, Lalitha Sivakumar and Nithyasree Mahadevan at the Madras Music Academy. She is a student of Lalitha Sivakumar and singer Nithyasree Mahadevan and has regularly performed with them in live concerts.
Lavanya Sundararaman was born into a traditionally rich musical family in Chennai, with many names linked to Carnatic music. D. K. Pattammal and Palghat Mani Iyer are among the leading names with whom she is linked with, and belongs to the fourth generation of artists. Her grandmother Lalitha Sivakumar (daughter of Palghat Mani Iyer) is the daughter-in-law of D. K. Pattammal. Thus she has musical links from two families – one from Kerala and the other from Tamil Nadu. Lavanya was born to Gayathri and Dr. R. Sundararaman.
Lavanya has received training in Carnatic music from her great-granddaughter D. K. Pattammal, followed by her grandmother Lalitha Sivakumar and aunt Nithyasree Mahadevan. She has also accompanied them in their musical performances. She took advanced studies in Music at Queen Mary's College, Chennai, where she completed graduation & post-graduation, and currently pursuing her Ph.D. Lavanya has performed at major sabhas in India, and also in foreign concerts held in US, Sri Lanka, Canada etc. She regularly appears in music programs of Tamil television, and has also sung devotional songs in Hindi.
