Kumar Mukherjee Biography 
Kumar Mukherjee is a leading Hindustani vocalist from Kolkata. He is also known as a music composer, lyricist and an actor. As a musician and vocalist, he is specialized in Khayal, Thumri, Ghazal and Sufi Kalam. He is associated with professional career since mid-1990s. He is a disciple of great Munawar Ali Khan, grandson of great Ghulam Ali Khan. Kumar started an organization, Raagreet, which aims at promoting the art of Hindustani Classical Music among youngsters and he succeeded in this mission. He has also mentored many budding young talents in the field of music.
Pandit Kumar Mukherjee was born in Kolkata, India on 2 July 1970. His father, Kajal Mukherjee was a footballer who has been a part of national team, and played for 15 long years. His mother, Suvra Mukherjee is a retired businesswoman of an MNC. His music talents were promoted and nurtured by his mother since younger age. He completed his Master’s in English literature from Jadavpur University.
He was introduced to tabla during his younger age under the guidance of Pandit Shankar Ghosh of the Farrukhabad Gharana. He was only 8 years old then. Later his search for a guru in vocals in Sanjukta Ghosh, a disciple of Ustad Munawar Ali Khan, and later he got opportunity to learn directly from the grandson of legendary Ghulam Ali Khan. He met this legendary musician for the first time in 1981 and he moved to Delhi in 1984 to become his disciple.
He got the idea to start a music school after he became a disciple of Munawar Ali Khan. His music school Raagreet gives emphasis to Gharana & Gayaki singing styles and also diction of different regional languages, and dialects. Kumar Mukherjee has created many well-known emerging talents of the recent time.
