Kousalya (singer) Biography

Kousalya is a south Indian singer who works in film industry. She predominantly works in her mother tongue, Telugu language. She marked her playback singing career in 1999 with Telugu movie Nee Kosam, music scored by R. P. Patnaik, and in the career spanning to two decades, she owns many memorable and hit Telugu songs to her credit. She also holds a master’s degree in music and currently pursuing doctoral research in the same. She has also worked as a dubbing artist for three movies - Sravanamasam for heroine Kalyani, Bakara for heroine Yashika and "Cheekati Rajyam" for Kamal Hassan's wife character.

She hails from Guntur, Andhra Pradesh. Nizampatnam is her hometown. She did her schooling in St Joseph's school in Nagarjuna Sagar and did her graduation in music from Guntur women's college. In her 20-year old career she has rendered her voice for more than 500 songs, and has received the prestigious Nandi award for best female playback singer thrice – Title track of TV serial Endamaavulu in 2002, followed by "Gundelona" song of Satyabhama movie 2007 and Title track of Adade Adharam in 2011. She has also won many other singing awards. She has sung for several serials, successfully hosted TV shows and mentored other singers.

She stepped into the limelight for the first time as winner of the popular music-based reality show Padutha Theeyaga on ETV hosted by S. P. Balasubrahmanyam. After that she sang hundreds of film songs and several of them refuse to leave the lips of fans. During her early career she has sung several jingles also. Her most popular songs are included in the films - Chitram, Amma Nanna O Tamil Ammai, Itlu Sravani Subramaniam, Avunu Valliddaru Ishtapaddaru etc. She dated her childhood friend whom she married later. But she came to limelight when she later filed a domestic harassment case against her husband.
