Kalpana Patowary Biography 
Kalpana Patowary is a popular playback and folk singer from Assam. She established herself as a leading Bhojpuri playback singer, though she owns many hit folk songs to her credit. She primarily performs in Assamese classical, jazz, acoustic folk, electronic fusion and ghazals versions of music. She has extensively worked on the works of Bhikhari Thakur, and has released one album in his tribute. Patowary is the first Bhojpuri singer to present the old Khadi Birha tradition to international platforms, and is the first woman to record and sing in the Chhaprahiya Purvi style, which was till then performed exclusively by men. She rendered her voice for the peppy number, "Gandi Baat" aside Mika Singh for the movie, R... Rajkumar, apart from many other Bollywood films.
Kalpana Patowary was born on 27 October 1978 in Barpeta district in Assam into a family of folk singers. Her father is a folk singer who taught her kamrupiya and goalporiya Assamese folk music at tender age. She started performing publically at a very young age of only 4. She completed her graduation in English literature, followed by Visharad in Indian Classical Music from Bhatkhande Music Institute University, Lucknow in 1996.
She also participated in the reality show Junoon - Kuchh Kar Dikhaane Ka on NDTV Imagine in 2008. She sings in many forms of Bhojpuri folk music, which is rarely accomplished by folk artists. The first woman artist to perform Chhaprahiya Purvi style on stage, she also performs in Pachra, Kajri, Sohar, Vivaah geet, Chaita, and Nautanki in Bhojpuri language. She was featured in a documentary film, Bidesia in Bambai in 2013. Patowary joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2018. She has sung film songs in Hindi, Bhojpuri, Tamil, Assamese, Marathi, Bengali etc.
