Jaladi Raja Rao Biography

Jaladi Raja Rao was an acclaimed writer of Telugu entertainment world. Apart from numerous plays and playlets he has also penned numerous popular songs of Telugu cinema. He penned several hit numbers in late 70's and 80's, of which his folk songs are very popular. Jaladi Raja Rao made debut as lyrics writer with the film, Palle Seema (1977). But it was the song - "Yathamesi thodina yeru yendadu, pogili pogili yeddchina” from the movie, Pranam Khareedu which became very popular. With the success of Griha Pravesham and Kotala Rayudu, he established himself as a popular lyricist of the industry. Though stayed in the industry for more than three decades, he penned lyrics for only about 250 films which include the patriotic songs like "Punyabhoomi Naa Desam.." of Major Chandrakanth. Still now his folk songs with a rural touch are more popular.

 

He was born on 9 August 1932 in Gudiwada of the Krishna district. His father Jaladi Emmanuel was a freedom fighter. After 10th he took a diploma course in teaching and started his career as a teacher. As he worked in different districts of Andhra Pradesh, he got exposed to different slangs of Telugu language and he closely observed them all. In 1968 he resigned his secure job to seek opportunities in film industry as a lyricist.

 

Palle Seema (1977) marked his debut in film industry. He shot to fame with his song -"Yathamesi thodina yeru yendadu, pogili pogili yeddchina... " and later he got prefixed as `Pranam Karidu' Jaladi. Incidentally it was megastar Chiranjeevi's second film, but got released first. Jaladi also wrote two duets for Chiranjeevi's first film `Punadhirallu'.
