Hindraj Divekar Biography
Pandit Hindraj Divekar is an Indian musician from Pune, who is an exponent of Rudra Veena and Sitar. Known as a musician, teacher, author and musicologist, he was a recipient of numerous honours as well. He is the disciple of Bindu Madhav Pathak from Hubli, an exponent of rudra veena and Sitar, who lived during 1935 - 2004. Hindraj Divekar is also a prominent musician of current era, who started a music school in Pune named Hindgandharva Sangeet Academy. He currently serves as its director. He is one among the few prominent musicians of 20th century and surviving artists of rudra Veena.
Pandit Digambar Shivaram Divekar was born on December 4, 1954 in Pune, Maharastra. He was the son of veteran sitar player Pandit Hindagandharva Shivarambuwa Divekar. He also played rudra Veena. Bindu Madhav inherited music talents from his father and followed his legacy. In fact he was introduced to the world of music by his father, who gave him the early training in sitar and also veena. He continued learning from Pandit Bhaskar Chandawarkar, followed by Pandit Mangal Prasad and Abdul Halimjafar Khan. Later he also took lessons in rudra Veena from Pandit Pandharinathji Kolhapure, Zia Mohimuddin Dagar and Pandit Bindu Madhav Pathak. He trained for both Dhrupad and Khayal styles.
He completed Sangeet Visharad in 1985, and also authored a few books related to music such as Rudra Veena: An Ancient String Musical Instrument. Pandit gave his first stage performance outside India in 1979, and since then he regularly performs in music festivals across the globe. He also taught at Department of Hindustani Music, Spicer Memorial College, Pune. After retirement, he started a music school in Pune, where he continues with his music classes.
