Guda Anjaiah Biography

Guda Anjaiah was a poet, writer and singer from Telangana. He also penned lyrics for Telugu film songs. Best associated with Telangana agitation, he has also penned many songs and poems related to it. He gave his public performance at a very young age of 16, when his song Ooru Manadira was well noticed. Walekum salam walekum Police Anna and Nenu Rano Biddo Sarkar Dhawakana are among his popular songs. His novel – Polimera, book on Telugu film songs - Cinema Patalu and story anthology - Dalitha Kathalu are popular. Telangana Sahithya Puraskaram, Komuram Bheem National Award and Suddala Hanumanthu - Janakamma Award are some of the honours he earned in 2015, a few months before his death in 2016 because of kidney related ailments.

 

He was born in Lingapuram village of the Dandepalli Mandal, Adilabad district of undivided Andhra Pradesh on 1 November 1955. Lakshmaiah and Laskhmamma were his parents. He had 6 siblings including one sister. His parents used to recite and sing him mythology tales from Hindu culture as well as folk culture right from childhood, and it influenced him a lot. His early education was done at his native village and for advanced studies he moved to Hyderabad, where he completed B. Pharmacy course.

 

He wrote the first song Ooru idichi ney poduna while studying at school. He dealt with the social issue of drought in Telangana Region through his poem and received praises. His poem also received appreciation from Telugu poets. It encouraged him to write more. Ooru Manadira at the age of 16 is regarded as his masterpiece. It was later translated into 16 other languages, and featured in one movie too. Apart from poetry and film lyrics, his support for Telangana agitation is well-known. He has been a part of this movement right from its beginning since 1969. His songs such as Rajigo Ore Rajigo , Na Telangana, Na Telanagana .. Niluvella Gayala Veena, Ayyoniva Nuvvu Avvoniva Telanganoniki Thoti Paloniva etc fuelled the agitation demanding separate state.
