Gayathri Girish Biography 
Gayathri Girish is one among the well-established carnatic exponents of present times. For her disciplined efforts and sustained excellence, she has been honoured with numerous awards including - Madhura Murali Puraskar (2012), Kalaimamani (2009) by government of Tamil Nadu, Dr. S. Ramanathan Memorial Award, Pappu Kamakshiamma Memorial Award and K.R.Sundaram Iyer Memorial Award for Best Concert by Music Academy, Chennai, Dr. M. L. Vasantakumari Award by Sriragam Fine Arts, Chennai, Kalai Nirai Mamani by Tamil Nadu Government Music College and K.V.Mahadevan Award of Excellence by Shree Bharatalaya. Many of her live concerts have been released commercially as albums. Vaishnavam, Aarupadai Veedu Kshetra and Raga Manjari are a few such. She is an A-Grade artist of All India Radio, Chennai.
Gayathri Girish was born in 1973. She got initial training in carnatic music at the age of 6. She could identify several ragas during concerts when she was barely three years old. Her first concert was at Srinivasa Sastry Hall, Mylapore, Chennai for the "Children Academy" in the year 1986. She has represented her school and college for many state wide competitions and has won several prizes. Her schooling was done at Kendriya Vidhyalaya and college studies at Meenakshi College for Women, Chennai where she took a graduation in Mathematics. Later she took a Post-Graduate Degree in Computer Science.
Initially she was trained in carnatic music by Sri Vaigal Gnanaskandan of the Semmangudi School followed by Madurai Sri TN Seshagopalan. Apart from carnatic music, she has also learnt violin from Smt. T. Rukmini and Lalgudi Sri G Jayaraman. As a versatile carnatic singer, her singing range includes Tamil Tevaram hymns and Divya Prabhandams to Purandaradasar Devarnamas. She has also done non-routine concerts such as Jugalbandis with Hindustani musicians.
