Debojyoti Mishra Biography

Debojyoti Mishra is a noted music composer from Bengal. Bengali movie ‘Autograph’ includes his most memorable tracks. Memories in March, Chitrangada, Titli, Tumi Ele Tai, Arekti Premer Golpo, Dharam, Utsab, Basanto Utsab, Bariwalli, Ek Je Aachhe Kanya and Chander Pahar are a few more noted works. Raincoat starring Aishwarya Rai and Ajay Devgan in lead role is his noted work in Bollywood as a music director. He has also composed music for National award winning movie - Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa. Though he mostly concentrates on Bengali works, he has occasionally done some regional movies also. Malayalam movie, Calcutta News directed by Blessy is one such noted work of Mishra. The movie was set in the streets of Kolkata.

 

He was born in a musical family in Bengal. His father Jahnabi Ranjan Mishra was a noted vocalist. During childhood days, Mishra learnt violin from Shishir Konya Dhar Choudhary. But he didn’t start his professional career through violin. Yet he started off with violin and has been a violinist for many Satyajit Ray movies. He also took a diploma from the London school of music. He was very close to Gautam Chattopadhyay and also got opportunity to work under legendary music director, Salil Chawdhury for long 14 years. He started with jingles and owns more than 500 jingles in his credit.

 

Mishra is known for using fewer instruments in his compositions and he gives preference to the playback singer. He has been associated with Rituparno Ghosh for 8 films and many of its songs are popular including Raincoat and Antar Mahal. For Raincoat, he used Shubha Mudgal as the voice of the film.
