Bhavana Radhakrishnan Biography

Bhavana Radhakrishnan is a Carnatic singer and Malayalam playback singer, who shot to fame after singing the romantic track – Ennodenthinee Pinakkam for the award winning movie, Kaliyattom. The song was lip sync by Manju Warrior. Her voice matched the leading actress on screen a lot and the song gave Bhavana, the state film award for best playback singer (female). The song was composed and written by Kaithapram Damodaran Namboothiri, her relative. Though she has sung many songs for Malayalam, she is still remembered for this melodious song. Bhavana is quite popular for her devotional songs too and is a Carnatic singer, who has given more than 300 stage performances.

 

Her birth name is T. M Bhavana, born on 28 July 1961 in Alanallur village of Palakkad district. She is married to Chemistry Professor, Dr. C G Radhakrishnan Namboothiri who worked in VTM NSS College, Dhanuvachapuram. Her husband’s name is added to her name. A trained Carnatic singer, she has worked as a music teacher in many educational institutions. Currently she works as an associate professor in Carnatic music at SN College, Kollam. She has composed music for Narayana Guru’s songs and compiled to one CD, closely working with the department of music at SN College. She has been awarded Doctorate in Music by the University Of Kerala.

 

She had a systematic learning in Carnatic music. Her mother and grandmother were good singers and thus Bhavana too landed into the same field. It was only during her graduation, she thought seriously about music. She completed graduation in music. She entered Akashvani as an artist at the age of 16. She regularly participated in music competitions since school days. She has done only a few film songs. Thankavilakanamma of less known movie, The Honourable Pankunni Nair (1991) marked her film debut. The song was penned by Kaithapram Damodaran Namboothiri. Her second song from Kaliyattom was also penned by the same musician. She was offered the second song after a long break of 6 years.
