Anurag Saikia Biography

Anurag Saikia is a young music composer from Assam and National award winning artist too. He won Best Music Director (Non-Feature Film) at 61st National Film Awards for the film, Yugadrashta. He has composed music for Bollywood films such as High Jack, Karwaan and Mulk, all released in 2018. He has also composed music for Assamese movies and short films like Yugadrashta, One Last Question, Holding Back, The Job, Maj Rati Keteki etc. He composed two songs for Dulquer Salman starrer Karwaan – “Heartquake", "Chota Sa Fasana" and also yet another version of “Heartquake", and his work got noticed.

 

Anurag Saikia hails from Moran, Assam. Moron belongs to Dibrugarh district of Assam. He was born in 1988, December. He was born into a musical family and hence he took inspiration from his family members including parents. His father is a research scholar who also received the Pratima Pandey Award for his contribution towards Assamese folk music. His mother is a radio artist and folk singer. He has also been inspired by the music of Michael Jackson, Sting, Hans Zimmer, Dr. Bhupen Hazarika etc.

 

His childhood days were spent in tea gardens. He spent most of the time enjoying nature beauty, rivers, tea gardens etc. The richness of Assamese folk music also influenced him a lot. To pursue a career in music, he was in Chennai for two years and later moved to Mumbai. As of now, he has spent 6-7 years in Mumbai. In 2014 he won National award for best music in the non-feature film category, and also Best Music Award for Shinyor at Prag Cine Awards. He earned national award at such a young age and received praises from all corners. He was 26 when he earned National award.
