Anjali Marathe Biography

Anjali Marathe is a well-known playback singer and Hindustani vocalist from Maharashtra. In 1996 she won National Film Award for Best Playback Singer at the age of only 16. She won the prestigious award for the song, "Bhui Bhegalali Khol" for the Marathi movie, Doghi. She was married to noted singer Saleel Kulkarni and the couple had two children. They are now separated, and Saleel holds the custody of his kids. Their son Shubhankar has sung for kids' movie 'Chintoo'. Anjali’s mother Anuradha Marathe too is a noted singer.

 

Anjali Marathe hails from Maharashtra. She was born into a musical family. She was initiated to the world of music by her mother Anuradha Marathe, who is a Hindustani singer and a familiar figure in stage shows for light music. She sings both Marathi and Hindi songs. Anjali too followed the footsteps of her mother and later created a niche of her own in the field of playback singing. Anjali completed her studies in Psychology. Though she wanted to join medical studies, she later changed the decision to pursue a career in the field of music.

 

Anjali recorded her first song at the age of 9. She sang for Marathi movies and television serials since then, and also recorded songs for All India Radio Pune for Balodyan, a children’s program. Currently she is active in playback singing, Hindustani music as well as stage shows. She also participates in street plays and many other cultural events. As a playback singer she recorded songs for Marathi films, Chaukat Raja and Saibaba before Doghi happened. After she won National award for Doghi, she shot to instant fame.
