Amjad Ali Khan (indian Vocalist) Biography

Amjad Ali Khan is an Indian vocalist who practises Hindustani music. He belongs to a family with strong musical tradition, with several generations associated with music. He is a descendent of Abdul Wahid Khan and Abdul Karim Khan, who were the founders of the Kirana Gharana. He also follows the same tradition of music. His father is Akhtar Nawaz Khan, a vocalist, and his maternal uncles Mashkoor Ali Khan and Mubarak Ali Khan are some of the leading names of Kirana tradition of Hindustani music. Amjad Ali Khan is the torch bearer of this tradition in the present generation.

Amjad Ali Khan was born into a musical family on 4 September 1980. He got training in Hindustani music from his father Akhtar Nawaz Khan, who has been a popular artist. He is the elder son to his parents. He was later trained by his maternal uncles Mashkoor Ali Khan and Mubarak Ali Khan. As a solo performer, Amjad started off in the late 1990s and has performed in many prestigious music festivals and concerts. Some of the major cultural events include - Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Festival, Pune in 2015, Harballabh Sangeet Sammelan in Jallandhar, Delhi Youth Festival conducted by Ministry of Culture in Delhi etc.

Apart from his regular performances, he also conducts workshops and seminars to promote Hindustani music among youngsters. He is an empanelled artist in ICCR and has performed in many foreign countries. He is the founder of Kirana Gharana Music Academy, which promotes Hindustani music and different styles of music in a structured and organized way. He is a recipient of the prestigious Pt. Bhimsen Joshi National Award in 2015 and many more honours.
