Ali Haider Biography

Ali Haider is a popular singer associated with Pakistani music. He is an actor too. He shot to fame after his album, ‘Purani Jeans’, which became equally popular in India as well. Often tagged as ‘One-Hit Wonder’, Ali couldn’t deliver same success later. Ali has been associated with Indian music also and has sung a few songs in movies and Hindi television soaps. He rendered his voice for the song Asmaani Rang Ho composed by Pranit for the popular Indian TV soap, Dill Mill Gayye. He has also acted in numerous TV serials on PTV. Most recently he has been offered a role by a Hollywood director in a film which has Pakistani characters in it.


He was born in Karachi on 22 October 1967. He completed Civil Engineering degree at NED University. Yet his true passion was music. He also acted in a few Pakistani films and television serials. He is associated with music since late 1980s and Jane Jan Sun (1988), Chahat (1989), Tarang (1990) etc. He capitulated to fame with 1993 album Sandesa, which includes the most popular song – Purani Jeans. Its music video was released in India in 1998 which made him extremely popular in India as well. Bollywood actress Kim Sharma was featured in Purani Jeans.


Later his albums like Chand Sa Mukhra and Mahi have been major successes. Yet it couldn’t replicate the success created by Sandesa, and slowly Ali faded away. He faced a major setback in his music career and personal life when he lost his son in 2009. He kept himself away from music for a while, and tried to find peace in spirituality and devotional means. Slowly he recovered from his bad phase of his life through spiritual means and he was influenced a lot by the works of Baba Bulleh Shah. His poetry works helped Ali to rediscover himself and released a couple of devotional albums after that.


He also tried fashion designing and has created his own label called 'Qaraar'. Now he is back to his music field, and he feels his daughters are his best critics. `Bachpan Ki Badami Yaadein' (2013) is his comeback pop album and he did it after the insistence of his daughters. The album is a compilation of songs with different moods. He has also sung in Persian for his new album, and also tried semi-classical. He is now accepting offers from Indian film industry as an actor and singer.
