A.t. Ummer Biography

A.T. Ummer is a music director of Malayalam during 1970’s and 1980’s. In association with lyricist Bichu Thirumala, he has delivered many super hit songs for Malayalam. Apart from Bichu Thirumala, he was successful with O.N.V Kurup and P.Bhaskaran too. Abhijathyam, Aalinganam, Pambaram, Jalatharangam, T.P. A.T. Ummer was born in Thalasserry of Kannur district on 10 March 1933. He debut Malayalam as a music director for Vincent’s Thalirukal in 1967. In 1969, he composed the songs of Vincent’s movie again. The movie was Aalmaram and full credits go to this director who recognized the talent of A.T. Ummer as a music director. They paired for the third time for Madhu Sarada starrer Abhijathyam in the year 1971. The songs of Abhijathyam became so popular and cemented A.T.Ummer as a successful music director of era of 70’s. Songs like Chempakapoonkavanathile and Vakappoo maram choodum sung by Yesudas were immensely popular during those days.  

 

It was during 1970’s that he teamed up with Bichu Thirumala and afterwards, most of his big hit songs belong to Bichu too. In 1976, he won Kerala state awards for best lyricist for the first time. The movie was Aalinganam directed by I.V. Sasi. Thushaara bindhukkale, sung by Janaki was one among the most popular songs of the movie. His other big hits include - Oru mayil peeliyay njan of Aniyatha valakal, Neela jalasayathil, Vrishchika rathri than aramana muttathoru, Pottikkaranjukondomane, Oru nimisham tharoo ninnilaliyaan, Devi nin chiriyil and Marivill panthalitta.
