A. R. Ameen Biography

A. R. Ameen is the son of legendary music composer and singer A. R. Rahman who has just stepped into playback singing. His voice was first used by Rahman to record one song for the English movie, Couples Retreat in 2009 where he joined the team of A. R. Rahman, Blaaze, Vivian Chaix, Clinton Cerejo & Dominique Cerejo. As a full-fledged singer, he marked his debut in 2015 with Rahman’s musical, O Kadhal Kanmani singing the solo "Maula Wa Sallim". He also sang its Telugu version for the film titled OK Bangaram and Hindi version for the film titled Ok Jaanu. After that he has worked with his father for some movies in Marathi and Hindi languages too. His song Maula Wa Sallim has earned him multiple nominations at different award functions.

 

A. R. Ameen was born on 6 January 2003 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu into a family with strong links with Indian and international music. Born as the son of A. R. Rahman he too chose the same path of music. His grandfather R. K. Shekhar was a music director, composer and conductor for Tamil and Malayalam films who died in his early 40s. His father A. R. Rahman is a global figure, and an academy winner too. His aunt A. R. Reihana is a playback singer, while his uncle Rahman is a well-known south Indian actor. Music composer G. V. Prakash Kumar is his first cousin, and thus he is related to Prakash’ wife Saindhavi, a well-known playback singer. Music composer A. H. Kaashif is his cousin.

 

A. R. Ameen kicked off singing in 2009 with The English film composed by his father, Couples Retreat as a child artist. As a full-fledged singer, he debut with O Kadhal Kanmani. As of now he has sung for Telugu, English, Marathi, Tamil and Hindi languages. In 2017 Rahman used his voice to record one song for Sachin: A Billion Dreams in 4 different languages/versions. Apart from Rahman, he has also sung for music composer Roshan Saluri, a solo song - "Kotha Kotha Bhasha" for 2016 Telugu film, Nirmala Convent. Ameen has appeared in a couple of music videos.
