Raninder Singh Biography

Raninder Singh is the titular Heir Apparent to the title of Maharaja of Patiala. He belongs to royal house of Patiala belonging to the Phulkian dynasty. He is an active politician belonging to Indian National Congress. Both his parents are eminent leaders belonging to the same political party from Patiala. His father is ex-Chief Minister of Punjab Capt. Amarinder Singh and his mother is present cabinet minister of Manmohan Singh’s ministry, Preneet Kaur - Minister of State for External Affairs. Raninder Singh is called by his nick name, Tikku in his princely state. He is also known as a patron of sports and is an ace shooter.

 

He was born on 2 August 1967 to the royal family of Patiala as the son of Capt. Amarinder Singh and his wife, Preneet Kaur. He has one sister too. His schooling was completed at Patiala and Dehradun. In 1990 he graduated in business management from Buckingham University. He entered active politics in the late 1990’s, almost the same time when his mother too joined Indian National Congress. He assisted his parents in their election campaigns and also joined Youth Congress division of Patiala. In 2005, he became General Secretary of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee. He played a significant role in election campaigns in Malwa regions winning Congress the major seats in the coming elections.

 

In 2009, he contested Lok Sabha elections for the first time, though he had to taste the bitterness of failure. In 2012 again, he unsuccessfully contested general elections, from Samana constituency. He is married to Yuvrani Rishma Kaur since 1995 and the couple has three children.
