Vanathi Srinivasan Biography

Vanathi Srinivasan is a well-known politician from Tamil Nadu, and a successful and prominent lawyer of Madras High Court, currently the Union Government’s Assistant Solicitor General. She is associated with Bharatiya Janata Party, and currently serves as the General Secretary of the party in Tamil Nadu. She hails from Coimbatore, born in June 1970. In 2016 state assembly elections, she secured 33,113 votes in the Coimbatore South Assembly Election, though she lost it. She is the founder of Thamarai Shakthi Trust – an NGO working for Women Empowerment.

 

Vanitha was born into an agricultural family in Thondamuthur village of Coimbatore District in 1970. After completing graduation in chemistry, she did her LLB studies, and later started practising law in 1993. Currently she is a prominent lawyer and serves as Union Government’s Assistant Solicitor General in Madras High Court. She has been practising here for more than 2 decades since 1990s. Her husband Sreenivasan is also a lawyer by profession.

 

She has also served many administrative positions like including a board member of Central Board of Film Certification and Standing Counsel for Southern Railway and Union Government. She was invited for US State Development for Young Leaders Programme in 2010. Currently she is active in state politics, associated with BJP and serves as its General Secretary. She has unsuccessfully contested in state assembly elections twice, on BJP ticket.

 

Vanitha is also known for many social activities related to women empowerment. She supported Asian games medalist Santhi Soundarajan's Justice for Santhi campaign, and openly supports the rights of gender and sexual minorities in India. She launched Gopi Shankar Madurai’s book supporting this issue.
