Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy Biography

Yeduguri Sandinti Jaganmohan Reddy is an Indian politician serving as the 17th and Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh since 2019. He is also the founder and president of YSR Congress Party (YSRCP). He is the son of the former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy. He had served as the leader of opposition in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly between 2014 and 2019.

 

He was born on 21st December 1972 in a village at Jammalamadugu district. He is affectionately called as Jagan by his followers. He is elected as the member of the parliament from Kadapa constituency.

 

His father Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy who is called as YSR is the former Chief Minister of Andra Pradesh. His mother is Smt. Vijayalakshmi. He married Bharathi Reddy and has two daughters. He studied at Pulivendula School and Hyderabad Public School and is a B.com graduate. He is a political and social worker and selected as the member of the 15th Lok Sabha.

 

Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy started the Telugu newspaper Sakshi and the television channel called Sakshi TV. He started his political career in the year 2004 and elected from Kadapa constituency as the member of the YSR Congress. He represented YSR Congress and won with a great majority. His opponents are Telugu Desam Party and Indian National Congress. His relationship with the INC deteriorated after the death of his father.

 

He started Odarpu Yatra, the condolence tour in which he met the families of those who committed suicide or died of shock on hearing the death of his father YSR in helicopter crash. When he was asked to call off this Yatra he said that that was personal and had nothing to do with politics. On November 29, 2010 he resigned from the INC and on 16th February 2011 he started the YSR Congress Party.

 

In the 2019 National and State election held in April–May 2019, YSR Congress Party swept the polls and won 151 of the total 175 assembly seats and 22 of the 25 Lok Sabha seats in AP. He took oath as Chief Minister on 30 May 2019.

 

He is interested in social and cultural activities and scientific accomplishments. He is also interested in sports, and recreation. He had visited many countries including Singapore, Israel, Switzerland, U.K, and U.S.A.
