N. K. Premachandran Biography

N. K. Premachandran is an Indian politician from the state of Kerala, affiliated to Revolutionary Socialist Party. He currently serves as a parliamentarian in the 17th Lok Sabha headed by Narendra Modi and represents Kollam constituency. He is one among the 13 UDF candidates who got elected to Lok Sabha in 2019. He was the former minister for Water Resources in the government of Kerala, and has also served as a member of Rajya Sabha. As an orator he is known for his firebrand speeches. He has authored one travelogue titled “Oh Iraq" based on his travel experience to Iraq. Currently he serves as the Central Secretariat Member of the Revolutionary Socialist Party.

 

N. K. Premachandran was born on 25 May 1960 in Navaikulam, Thiruvananthapuram district, Kerala. He is married to Dr. S Geetha and has one son. He has been brilliant in academics, and is a rank holder in LLB graduation with record marks. He graduated in science from Fathima Matha National College, Kollam and later passed LLB from Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram with record marks and with First Rank in 1985.

 

He got into active politics in the second half of 1980s, when he was elected as Navaikulam Grama Panchayat Member in 1987. He served in this position till 1995, after which he was elected as a Member of District Panchayat. In 1996 he successfully contested for Lok Sabha from Kollam constituency, and in 1998, 2014 and 2019 from the same. He was elected to Rajya Sabha in 2000. Thus he is a 4-term parliamentarian from Kerala. He served as the state minister during 2006-2011 under the leadership of Achuthanandan’s LDF ministry.
