Preneet Kaur Biography

Preneet Kaur is an Indian politician belonging to Indian National Congress. She currently serves as the Minister of State for External Affairs. She is the Member of Parliament representing Patiala constituency in the 15th Lok Sabha. Noted Congress politician and Ex-Chief Minister of Punjab Capt. Amarinder Singh is her husband. As an able leader she is known for social services. She initiated Sanjeevani an institute in Patiala for differently abled children. She was associated with Red Cross Society before getting fully involved with Indian politics.

She was born in 1944 in Shimla. Her schooling and college life were completed at her hometown. She got married to the royal family of Patiala at the age of 20. She married Maharaja of Patiala Capt. Amarinder Singh in 1964 and was assigned the title of Maharani. The couple has 2 children, one son and one daughter. Their son, Raninder Singh is also an active politician belonging to congress party and currently is the titular Heir Apparent to the title of Maharaja of Patiala.

She started her active career in politics in 1999 and contested in the 13th Lok Sabha elections from Patiala constituency. Since then she represents the same constituency throughout her political career. She served as the Member of Committee on Food, Civil Supplies and Public Distribution and Consultative Committee, Ministry of Agriculture during her first time. She was re-elected from Patiala in 2004. She remained as the member of Committee on Empowerment of Women, Public Undertakings and Water Resources during this term. She also served as the Member of Consultative Committee, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. After that she got elected in the next two Lok Sabha elections as well.
