Ishmeet Singh Biography

Ishmeet Singh was winning singer on the STAR Plus show Amul STAR Voice of India, season 1 – one of the top rated singing reality shows of Indian television before 2010. He won the contest in 2007, beating expected names like Toshi, Harshit etc. He also participated in top rated reality show called Jo Jeeta Wohi Superstar, of Star Plus again, a few weeks before he died by drowning in Maldives on July 29, 2008. When this unfortunate incident took place in 2008, the second season of Amul STAR Voice of India had just begun and he appeared in its first episode too, saying he will pass over the trophy to his predecessor. His first album was a religious Gurbani album called Satgur Tumre Kaaj Savaare. He died at a younger age of 19. During this unfortunate incident, fellow Star Voice of India contestants Sumitra and Vyom were also in his stage show at Maldives. Now also mystery is yet to be solved!

 

Ishmeet Singh was born on September 2, 1988 in Ludhiana, to a Punjabi Sikh family. He attended Guru Nanak Public School, Ludhiana and was a second year student at MNC College, Mumbai, pursuing BCom while his death happened. He participated in Amul STAR Voice of India when he was only 17 and was one of the youngest contestants. He was declared winner when he was 18. Winning trophy was handed to him none other than Lata Mangeshkar. He represented the Champions' team of Jo Jeeta Wohi Superstar and was eliminated on June 20, 2008. One month later, he died on July 29, 2008.

 

His style of singing was very similar to Bollywood singer Shaan and even sung a few tracks for him. Suno na of Jhankar beats was one such. He has also sung tracks of super hit songs like Tumse hi of Jab we met, Tenu leke of Salaam-E-Ishq and Jashan-E-Bahaara of Jodha Akbar. After his death, a few of his recorded songs were released. BIG Music released two albums in tribute to Ishmeet Singh - Mool Mantar and We will miss you.
