Sonu Nigam Biography

Sonu Nigam is a famous Indian playback singer and he has participated in movies of different languages like Punjabi, Bengali, Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam, Marathi and Tamil. He has also appeared in few Hindi feature films. He has released number of Indi-pop albums. He was nominated for Filmfare Best Male Playback Singer award more than a dozen times and he won the award twice for the films, Saathiya and Kal Ho Naa Ho.

 

He was born on 30th July 1973 in Faridabad. He hailed from a singing family. His parents are Agam Kumar Nigam and Shobha Nigam. He has two sisters Meenal and Neekita. He went to J. D. Tytler School to start his education. His father has released several hit albums such as Bewafaai, Phir Bewafaai and Bewafaai Ka Aalam. His sister Neekita is also a singer. Sonu Nigam married Madhirima on 15th February 2002 and has a son Neevan born in 2007.

 

He started his singing career when he was just three years old. Since his childhood days, he is accompanying his father at party and wedding appearances. He entered Bollywood at the age of 19. He hosted the television singing talent competition Sa Re Ga Ma in the year 1995 and soon became very famous. His song Accha Sila Diya became very famous. His title song of the film Kal Ho Na Ho is one of the modern legends. He has also released several pop albums. He has traveled to many world nations and performed there. He acted in some films too.

 

Sonu Nigam takes part in charities in India and abroad. He has worked for a number of cancer organizations, leprosy organizations, Dignity Foundation, women welfare organizations, earthquake relief measure, Kargil war affected families, HIV/AIDS causes, etc. He has made many contributions to the cause of peace between India and Pakistan.
