Shaan Biography

 

Shaan is an established playback singer of Bollywood. He is a successful pop album artist too, whose ‘Tanha Dil’ is very popular. Born as Shanthanu Mukherjee to Bengali Brahmin family, he belongs to the long list of Bengalis who has given significant contribution to Bollywood music industry. Shaan belongs to a musical family and his father Manas Mukherjee was a famous music director. Hi sister Sagarika is also a famous pop singer. He has also anchored ‘Music ka mahamuquabla’ reality show on singing in Star plus.

 

Shaan considers Kishore Kumar as his inspiration. He debut playback singing by singing a line for the song ‘Kitna hai pyari’ of Parinda. He teamed up with his sister and did many successful pop albums during 90’s. His first and second solo albums titles Loveology and Tanha Dil were popular. In 2000, Tanha Dil won MTV music awards and very soon he became busy in Bollywood too.’Musu musu haasi’ of Pyar mein kabhi kabhi’ (1999) and  ‘Tune mujhe pehchaana nahi’ of Raja Chachu (2002) were his first successful songs of Bollywood. In 2004, he released a Bengali album consisting of unreleased tunes of his father, along with his sister titled, ‘Tomar Aakash’.

 

He has become voice of many leading heroes of Bollywood including Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Aamir Khan, Tushaar Kapoor, Ranbhir Kapoor, Hritik Roshan, John Abraham and Ajay Devgan. He has also sung some hit numbers for Kannada movies For Puneet Rajkumar, Ganesh etc. A few hit songs include Jab se tere nayana of Sawariya, Chand sifarish of Fanaa, Rock and Roll of Kabhi alvida na kehna, Suno na of Jhankar beats, Behthi hawa of 3 idiots, Bum bum bole of Tare zameen par, Nikamma of Kya dil ne kaha, Yeh hawayein of Bas itna sa khwab hai, Paigam laya sawan of Lakeer, Mein aisa kyon hoon of Lakshya, One love for Rakth and Hum jo chalen elage of Jab we met. He became the main voice of Saif Ali Khan and most of his finest songs belong to him. A few of them include Hey Sona and Ab toh forever, Ladki kyon of Hum tum, My dil goes hmm of Salaam namasthe and Koi kahe and  Woh ladki hai of Dil chahta hai. He has won Filmfare in the successive years for Fanaa and Sawariya and has has won many Zee cine awards, IIFA and Star screen awards too.
