Tawang Travel Guide

The town of Tawang is located in the district of the same name in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh. It is approximately at a height of 3000 meters above sea level and is in the northwestern regions of the state. It would be insufficient to describe the place as simply beautiful and yet there are very few expressions available to describe it aptly. The region shares its boundaries with Bhutan and Tibet and is truly one of the most beautiful places of the state. It is accessible through a network of roads as you approach from different parts of the state or Assam and pass through the picturesque Sela Pass.

One of the important places of visit here is the Tawang monastery. This is one of the biggest monasteries built in eastern India and was initiated on the wishes of the fifth Dalai Lama. It also forms one of the major religious centers. Among other places you may consider a visit to the Tipi Orchid sanctuary here. There are several thousands of orchids that are here for you to see.

Make sure that you enjoy every bit of the natural beauty Tawang has to offer in a diverse variety of lakes and waterfalls along with mountains and religious places. Among the lakes that are here you can visit Pangang Teng Tso lake, Shonga Tser Lake and the Banga Jang lake. They present picturesque locales for tourists to visit and explore their natural beauty. There are several waterfalls too that can be visited. Take a trip to Bong Bong waterfalls and the Bap Teng Kang waterfalls. There is a large tract of the cascading flow of the waterfalls that comes gushing across. There is no other place that could fulfill your thirst for beauty than these.

There are several mountain peaks that are also worth visiting and taking a look at. There is the Gorichen Peak that stands at 22,500 feet and forms an impressive highest point in the region. Along the northeastern regions of the state there is the Ghesila Range that stretches in continuation of the border or Tawang. It stands like a natural boundary to the region. There are several groups that undertake trekking and camping trips to these peaks.

There are several ways of reaching Tawang. You can avail bus services as well car rentals and taxis. These are available from different parts of Assam like Tezpur and Guwahati and even from other parts of Arunachal Pradesh. There is a choice of private and government accommodations. You can make all kinds of reservations through the tourism offices that are available for Arunachal Pradesh in your state or even access the official website for the same.
