Chail in Shimla

Chail is a small village spreading over an area of 75 acres in the Shiwalik region of Himachal Pradesh. When Maharaja of Patiala, Bhupinder Singh was expelled from Shimla, he created his capital at Chail. This area is surrounded by deodar forests and is located at an elevation of 2226 meters above sea level.
The climate in winter in Chail drops below the freezing point and is considered to be one of the perfect places for skiing and ice skating. The highest cricket pitch and polo ground in the world is located here. There is a wildlife sanctuary in Chail and it has various species of fauna like sambhar, ghoral, khalif and cheer pheasants.
The Chail Palace was an ancient building built in 1891 by the Maharaja Bhupinder Singh. This is built on the three hills, Rajgarh Hill, Pandhewa Hill and Sabba Tibba Hill. From Chail you can have the wonderful glimpse of the valley. It is splendid to watch the River Sutlej winding its way between the mountain ranges.
