Golghar is the granary built in 1786 by Captain John Garstin. It was built after the famine of 1770 and has a storage capacity of 140,000 tons. It is built in the stupa architectural style and has a height of 29 meters. It has a thick wall at the base and has no pillars. There are 300 spiral steps to climb on to the top of this monument. This has been designed to carry the grains. There are two ways, one to climb up and the other one to climb down. From the top of the Golghar you can see the panoramic view of the city and the River Ganges flowing nearby.
