Victoria and Albert Museum has a collection of more than 4.5 million objects and it was founded in the year 1852. It covers an area of 12.5 acres of land and has 145 galleries. Some of them date back to 5000 years ago. It consists of objects made of ceramics, glass, silver, iron and also drawings, jewelry and furniture.
The museum also has the world largest collection of post classical sculpture. Formerly the museum was known as the Museum of Manufactures. It was officially inaugurated by Queen Victoria on 22nd June 1857. The architecture of Victorian period, Edwardian period, post war period and recent years are beautifully displayed here. It has the world’s largest ceramics and glass collection with more than 80,000 objects. The museum also houses more than 10000 paintings of various time periods.
