Matheran is the smallest hill station in India located on the Western Ghats. The Ministry of Environment and Forest has announced this as the eco-sensitive region and so vehicles are not allowed here. The peaceful environment attracts thousands of visitors all through the year.

The only mode of transport in Matheran is a narrow gauge railway built in 1907. There are about 28 points of interest here and 2 lakes, 2 parks and 4 places of worship are situated here. Traveling by foot or by horseback are the alternatives. Some of the places to visit are Alexander Point, Rambag Point, Little Chowk Point, Big Chowk Point, One Tree Hill Point, Olympia Race Course, Charlotte Lake, Celia Point, Echo Point, Porcupine Point, Lousia Point, Mayra Point, etc.
