Vilakku Thoon is one of the important landmarks of Madurai city and it was erected in the year 1840 at the junction of the South Masi Street and East Masi Street. It was constructed in the memory of the then collector of Madurai named Blackburn. It was in ruins without any maintenance and it was renovated by the Madurai Corporation and the Department of Tourism.
