Sri Meenakshi Temple is dedicated to goddess Meenakshi and Sundareshwarar. This temple is built in the South Indian Dravida architectural style. It has four immense gopurams and these are visible from at a distance. Each tower is decorated with thousands of painted sculptures. The enclosures have high masonary walls and the four entrances face four directions.

The sculpture of Ganesh carved in single stone is situated outside the shrine of Sundareswarar. The corridor around the sanctum is called Kilikoondu Manadapam. Other halls are Kambatadi Mandapam, Meenakshi Nayakkar Mandapam, Puthu Mandapam, Ashta Shakthi Mandapam, Pancha Pandava Mandapam, Viravasantharaya Mandapam, Mudali Pillai Mandapam and Mangayarkarasi Mandapam.

Aayiram Kaal Mandapam is famous for its 985 carved pillars built in 1569 by Ariyanatha Mudaliar. Pancha Sabhai is the court of Nataraja where the cosmic dance was performed. The sculpture of Nataraja is kept inside the huge silver altar and so called Velli Ambalam. Meenakshi Thirukalyanam is the important festival conducted here every year during the month of April.
