If you want to revitalize yourself after a hectic week of work, plan a trip to Karjat which is the most preferred destination for picnics, river rafting, hiking, trekking and mountain climbing. People residing in Navi Mumbai, Mumbai, Pune or Thane have farm houses and residential houses where they are often seen to spend their weekend. It will be a pleasurable experience to visit the place during the monsoon season. It is basically a trekking destination and from Mumbai it is at a distance of 88 km. The Ulhas River forms a beautiful backdrop and adding to the beauty of the place are some cascading waterfalls. On a clear day you can an imposing view of the hills and cliffs at the distance which gives a feeling of exaltation in the mind. Karjat has many tourist places of interest, some of the most invigorating are Kondana caves, Elephant head, Peth Fort, Health resorts etc.

In the north eastern region of Karjat lie the Peth Fort. Peth is a conically shaped hill which offers a heart rendering view of the surrounding foothills, the Matheran ranges and the Western ghats. One can also get a majestic view of the Konkan country side from the premise of this fort.

For health conscious people the health resorts will be a major attraction. They provide traditional holistic therapies and Ayurvedic treatments such as Massaging, Nasyam, Natural therapies, Aroma therapies etc. In addition meditation and yoga are also an integral part. One will surely have an enjoyable experience here in the embrace of the beautiful natural surroundings.

The Kondana Caves stands as a testimony to the lifestyle of the Buddhist followers. They are Buddhist caves, enclosed on all sides by sculptures, chaitya, vihara and stupa. The place magnifies above other things the Buddhist style of architecture. The ancient cave attracts a lot of tourists and Buddhist devotees.

Above all there are plenty of opportunity for trekking and rafting in the company of the stunning natural surroundings. The hilly terrain and the slopes that lead to the Rambagh Point, Peth Fort and Chanderi Fort provide one with great trekking opportunity. During the monsoon the Ulhas River swells up to provide opportunity for a nerve tingling rafting adventure.

The place is above all a great stopover for directors who come to shoot for their films. A number of film studios have been constructed here.

Since its proximity to the Mumbai, Pune and Thane it is easily accessible. Travelling by road is the most preferred choice as it gives one the opportunity to come in close contact with the beauty of the place.
