Mukteswara Temple is ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva that was built in 10th century. The torana or the arched gateway belonging to 900 AD built by the influence of Buddhist architecture is the important aspect of this temple. The thick pillars with strings of beads, statues of smiling women, the low and massive roof and the internal pillars are the striking features here. The intricate carvings and the compact style bear testimony to the architectural cognizance of the Vishwakarma Moharana sculptors. Due to the perfect blend of ancient and modern designing it is also known as the gem of Orissa architecture.
