Lingaraja Temple is dedicated to Harihara, the other name given to Lord Shiva and is one of the pilgrimate centers of the place. This is the biggest temple in Bhubaneswar and one of the important monuments of the place that rises to a height of about 180 feet. It represents the Kalinga architectural style.
Lingam is the symbol of Shaivisma and Shiva here is worshipped as Tribhuvaneshwara. This temple was built more than 110 years ago and has 150 smaller shrines within its spacious courtyard. There are four parts of the temple namely the main temple, the Bhoga Mandap, the Natya Shala and the Yajna Shala. Shivaratri is celebrated here in a grand manner and thousands of devotees gather here at that time.
