Yuyutsu Sharma Biography

Yuyutsu Sharma is an acclaimed Nepali writer belonging to Punjab. He moved to Nepal at an early age and now writes in English and Nepali languages. He occasionally conducts creative writing workshop at various universities of many foreign countries including US and Europe. Space Cake Amsterdam and other Poems from Europe and America, Everest Failures, Annapurna Poems, A Prayer in Daylight, Hunger of our Huddled Huts & other Poems, Some Female Yeti & other Poems, Milarepa's Bones, Helambu:33 New Poems and Nine New York Poems: A Prelude to ‘A Blizzard in my Bones are a few of his poetry collections. Nine New York Poems: A Prelude to ‘A Blizzard in my Bones – is his recent work published in 2014. Annapurnas and Stains of Blood is his published Travelogue. He has also done a few translation works.

 

He was born on January 5, 1960 in Nakodar, Punjab. His education was completed in his hometown itself. He was grown up in a very religious atmosphere with his mother, Shanti Devi. He was also attracted to Naga ascetics. But later his thoughts were diverted to western education. His education was completed at DAV College, Nakodar, Baring Union Christan College, Batala and University of Rajasthan. He remained in the literary circles during his college days and was involved in theater as a stage actor. After studies, he worked as faculty in Punjab University, Chandigarh and Tribhuwan University, Kathmandu.

 

In 1996, he quit his job to work as a freelance writer. He started visiting the Annapurna region of Western Nepal regularly. His first book was published only in 2006 - The Lake Fewa and a Horse. He is a recipient of rants from The Rockefeller Foundation, Ireland Literature Exchange, and many other foreign institutions.
