Arundhathi Subramaniam Biography

Arundhathi Subramaniam is an award winning Indian writer who predominantly writes in Bhakti poetry genre. A poet and writer, she is also a journalist and curator by profession. Handling different genres of literal career, she is also a critic and translator too. She writes both poetry and prose, and till now has published 12 books. She is from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, now based in Mumbai. She is a recipient of Khushwant Singh Memorial Prize for Poetry in 2015 and Mystic Kalinga Literary Award in 2017.

 

Arundhathi Subramaniam was born in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, and now she lives in Mumbai. She has published her poetry in international journals and anthologies. Though her work includes both fiction and non-fiction and also prose and poetry, she gained recognition as a writer through Bhakti poetry. She is currently one of the leading names in Indian literature, belonging to this genre. She has edited a few books, and apart from anthologies, her poems have appeared in anthology collections too, belonging to different authors. The Dance of the Peacock – is one such anthology work.

 

Arundhathi Subramaniam’s poetry collections include - Love Without a Story, When God Is a Traveller, Where I Live and On Cleaning Bookshelves. Sadhguru: More Than A Life and The Book of Buddha are her non-fiction biography works belonging to prose genre. Her book - God is a Traveller (2014) was the Season Choice of the Poetry Book Society, shortlisted for the T.S. Eliot Prize. She has worked as Head of Dance and Chauraha – arts forum at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Mumbai, and has been Editor of the India domain of the Poetry International Web.
