Yogendra Yadav Biography

Yogendra Yadav is an Indian politician belonging to the recently formed Aam Aadmi Party. Yadav is a member of the National Executive of the party since 2013. He is also known as an academician of social sciences. He is a Senior Fellow at the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies, Delhi since 2004. He is also a psephologist and political commentator on various television channels since 1996. In 2009 he was honoured with Global South Solidarity Award by The International Political Science Association for his outstanding contributions to politics. Yadav has published many articles and books and has also served as an editor and adviser for various publications. His works include research articles apart from books, which he co-authored with other writers.

 

He was born to a retired professor of economics in Delhi. Salim was his birth name. But his name was changed his name to a Hindu name Yogendra to stop bullying by Hindu students at school. He lost his grandfather in a communal riot in 1936. His wife, Madhulika Banerjee, is an associate professor at the University of Delhi. After studies, he worked as a Social science professor at various universities. Yadav was the founder-convener of the Lokniti network and founder-director of the CSDS Lokniti research programme.

 

He was appointed as a member of the National Advisory Council in the year 2010 for the implementation of the Right to Education Act. He joined AAP in the year 2011 to protest against corruption of the nation and particularly against Indian National Congress. In 2014 Lok Sabha elections, he contested from Gurgaon constituency. But he couldn’t make it.
