Kapil Misra Biography

Kapil Mishra is an Indian politician and a member of Bharatiya Janata Party from Delhi. He currently serves as a Cabinet Minister, Government of Delhi and holds the portfolio Water Resource Management. Formally he was associated with Aam Aadmi Party till 2017, and also served as an AAP MLA representing Karawal Nagar in Delhi state assembly. Young leader from Delhi, he is the son of Annapurna Mishra, First Mayor of the East Delhi Municipal Corporation and now a member of BJP. On 23 February 2020, Mishra publicly spoke out in a rally against the anti-CAA protesters. Following North East Delhi Riots which killed many people, he was accused of inciting the clashes with his hate speech.

Kapil Mishra was born on 13 November 1980 in Delhi as the son of Rameshwar Mishra “Pankaj” and Annapurna Mishra, BJP councillor from Sonia Vihar. Since young he has been associated with social activities and also co-founded "Youth for Justice", a New Delhi based youth action group, which dealt with several socio-economic issues such as Jessica Lal murder trial, issues of Farmers suicides, encroachment on Yamuna River bed and many more. He also protested against the cases of corruption in Commonwealth Games 2010 held in New Delhi.

In 2013 he formally joined the newly formed political party AAP, and successfully contested state assembly elections. He took power as legislator on 14 February 2015, a position he held till 2 August 2019. On 2 August 2019, he was disqualified from the Legislative Assembly under the anti-defection law. He officially joined Bharatiya Janta Party on 17 August 2019. During 2020 Delhi Assembly election his controversial tweets resulted in a 48-hour campaigning ban on him by Election Commission of India.
