S. Jagathrakshakan Biography

S. Jagathrakshakan is an Indian politician from the state of Tamil Nadu, affiliated to DMK. He currently serves as a parliamentarian in the 17th Lok Sabha headed by Narendra Modi and represents Arakkonam constituency. It’s his fourth term as a parliamentarian since 1984. He has also served as an MLA from Uthiramerur in the early 1980s representing ADMK. He was initially associated with ADMK during his early phase of his career and served his first term as parliamentarian representing the same party too. However he switched to DMK in the late 1990s.

S. Jagathrakshakan’s full name is Samikannu Jagathrakshakan. He was born on 5 August 1950 in Kalingamalai, Villupuram district, Tamil Nadu. He is also a businessman by profession. He was born to G. Swamikannu Gounder and Lakshmi amma. His wife’s name is J. Anasuya and the couple has two kids. S. Jagathrakshakan entered active politics in the early 1980s. He successfully contested 1980 state assembly elections from Uthiramerur, representing ADMK. He defeated S. Ramadoss of INC to become the legislator for the first time. He served as the Chairman of Environment Committee during his term as MLA.

Four years later in 1984 he resigned his position as MLA and successfully contested his first parliament elections from Chengalpattu. In 1989 he unsuccessfully contested state assembly elections from Uthiramerur, representing ADMK and lost to K. Sundar of DMK. In 1999 and 2009 he contested Lok Sabha elections from Arakkonam, this time with DMK ticket. In 2014 he was given another constituency, Sriperumbudur and lost to K. N. Ramachandran from AIADMK. Once again he returned back to parliament, when he was fielded by DMK once again in his favourite constituency Arakkonam.
