Vinoda Paliencar Biography

Vinoda Paliencar is an Indian politician and a cabinet Minister of Goa. He belongs to the Goa Forward Party, and he got elected to legislative assembly in 2017 from Siolim constituency. He currently serves as Minister of Water Resources Department and Fisheries since 14 March 2017. He was a member of Indian national Congress till 2016. He is the in-charge of the OBC wing of the Goa Forward Party at present. Apart from his political career, he is also a vocalist who received training from the renowned Pandit Jitendra Abhishek. He also completed his graduation in music.

Vinoda Datarama Paliencar was born in Goa on 18.5.1962. He was interested in music since young and to pursue a career in this field, completed Sangeet Visharad degree in classical music in 1988 from the Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal, Miraj and also took training from Pandit Jitendra Abhisheki. He is one among those rare leaders who rose to state level politics starting with local politics in Panchayat. He had a humble beginning in politics. He earlier served as a panch of the Siolim-Marna Panchayat. His brother Uday Paliencar is also a Congress politician who unsuccessfully contested 2012 state assembly elections.

Vinoda too started his career with Indian National Congress. He was associated with the party till 2016 till he called it quit. As a member of Goa Forward Party, he successfully contested Goa Legislative Assembly election, 2017 and defeated the Bharatiya Janata Party's Dayanand Mandrekar, a 4-term MLA. When BJP formed government with the support of Goa Forward Party, he was also induced to the cabinet soon after and given the portfolios, Water Resources Department and Fisheries.
