Vasundhara Doraswamy Biography 
Vasundhara Doraswamy is a Bharatnatyam dancer and the Founder-Director of Vasundhara Performing Arts Centre, Mysore. She received training from Shri Pattabhi Jois in Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga and later she developed her own sub domain in Vasundhara Style. She is associated with the field for about 45 years, and has trained hundreds of students till now. She owns a PhD for her study on the correlation between Yoga and Bharatanatyam. She has been awarded with the prestigious “Natya Rani Shantala” Award by government of Karnataka and is the youngest recipient of the “Karnataka Kala Tilak”. She is an A-Graded Artist in Doordarshan, and has regularly performed for the national channel many times.
She was born in 1949 in Moodabidri of South Canara in Karnataka to an artiste family. She started learning Bharatnatyam at the age of 4 under the guru Muralidhar Rao. At the age of 5 she had won three gold medals. She got married to H.S. Doraswamy, an authority on both classical music and dance. His encouragement and guidance catapulted her to the national level of classical dances. She has a son which lives in Australia with her and daughter-in-law, Meghala Hirasave. Currently Meghala is continuing in her tradition.
She is the only Bharatnatyam artist to be invited from India to perform for world peace conference in Paris. Along with her performances, she conducts workshops in Bharatanatyam and Yoga in different countries. She also conducts summer camps for Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in the UK. She established Vasundhara Performing Arts Centre 25 years ago, which conducts classes on four different classical dance forms. It also regularly conducts dance festivals and cultural events. She also choreographs art pieces in her distinct style. She combines yoga and Bharatanatyam for a style named after her by her students, the Vasundhara Bani.
