V. R. Sudheesh Biography

V. R. Sudheesh is a fictional writer of Malayalam literature, best known for short stories. He also authors non-fiction works. He is widely regarded as one of the best contemporary writers of present times. His story, Bhavana Bhedanam received Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Story in 2014. In 2017 his work, Kurukkan Mashinte School won Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Children's Literature. Apart from authoring books, he has also served as an editor of many books in the past years. He published more than 25 books which include short story collections, memoirs, essays, study etc. He also published an inland magazine called Layam.

V. R. Sudheesh was born in Vadakara, Kozhikode, Kerala. He studied history and Malayalam during his academic years. He later completed M.Phil from Madras University, and later chose teaching as his profession. He taught at many colleges under SN Trust, and currently serves as a faculty at SN College, Chelannur. As a writer he started his career at a very young age. He used publish his works in the children's column of Mathrubhumi Weekly those days. Later he started publishing his stories in other magazines too.

During his academic years in Calicut University, he won the prize in short story competition in University art festival. Apart from receiving Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award twice, he also received Thoppil Ravi Puraskaram, Ayamanam-C. V. Sreeraman Puraskaram etc. Now he is regarded as an important writer in postmodern Malayalam literature. Many of his works have become a part of academic syllabus in Kerala. Some of his published works include – Cholamarappathakal, Kroora Phalithakkaran Daivam, Vamshananthara Thalamura, Marakkoottangalkkidayile Nananja Mannu, Sudheeshinte Kathakal, Priyappetta Kathakal, Daivathinu Oru Poovu, Vimathalaingikam etc.
